About Ruth
Ruth is the co-founder of Illuminate Counselling and loves the collaboration of helping to lead a dedicated group of therapists, all of whom share the same values for what genuine mental health support looks like.
Ruth supports clients dealing with a wide range of reproductive mental health and relationship issues, including fertility challenges, pregnancy loss, pregnancy & postpartum adjustment, and parenthood. Having been in the trenches herself, Ruth is dedicated to helping people feel less alone during these vulnerable times.
With Ruth, you can expect the process to be down-to-earth, solution-focused, and with a sense of humour. She is committed to demystifying the counselling process, especially for those who may find the prospect of going to counselling for the first time to be intimidating.
In addition to her clinical work, Ruth has taught graduate level students and is passionate about helping to ‘launch’ and mentor new counsellors entering the field.
Ruth is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and has also taken advanced training in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International.
Prior to full-time private practice, Ruth has provided counselling in a variety of settings, including Employee Assistance Programs (Homewood Health, Morneau-Shepell), Community Mental Health (Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, Fraser Health Authority), and Non-profit organizations. Outside of work, Ruth is chasing after her six-year-old twin boys and enjoying the wild and imperfect privilege of parenthood.
